The Global Development Network (GDN), an international organization based in New Delhi, is a worldwide association of research institutes dedicated to generating, sharing and applying to policy knowledge in the social sciences, for the purpose of development. The organization seeks to hire a full-time Policy Outreach Assistant to support the design and implementation of policy outreach strategies and to mainstream policy outreach in all of GDN's activities.

The successful candidate will support the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach manage and coordinate outreach activities for the new policy research grant which aims to contribute to agricultural and trade policy debates in Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia, as well as globally. This project involves research based policy syntheses and aims to shape north-south and south-south policy debates on agriculture and trade by presenting timely, policy relevant, easily accessible and well presented findings/policy options to the policy community and other relevant stakeholders. The candidate will work under the direction and supervision of the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach. This is a full-time project based position for three years with potential for possible extension (subject to organizational requirements and performance).



• Support the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach in the implementation of policy outreach strategy.

• Support the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach in formulation of the communication strategy of the project.

• Support the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach and the Project Coordinator on general administrative matters pertaining to the project and logistical management of events.

• Assist in planning and organizing media events such as information sessions/press briefings/conferences and draft press releases to communicate project messages.

• Support in establishing and maintaining close cooperation with local and international journalists on the production and distribution of information materials/products.

• Support and contribute in preparation of policy briefs, policy newsletters and other policy-oriented publications and reports, including website content.

• Support the communications team at GDN and undertake from time to time any additional duties assigned by the Lead Institutional Relations and Communications Officer.

• Build a database of appropriate media contacts and a calendar of relevant global events where GDN should present its policy research.

• Build a database for policy issues as they appear in the mainline media in India and the world.

• Track TV debates on policy issues across the world.

• Brief the Lead Strategist for Policy Outreach on a weekly basis on key policy issues as they shape up around the world and in India.


• University Degree in PR/Journalism or related Social Science discipline and other relevant training certificates in the field of PR, communications, mass media.

• 2 years of relevant practical experience in PR/Communications field.

• Excellent writing and communication skills (sample writing pieces are a must).

• Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail.

• Practical experience in working with a wide array of mass media sources, representatives and other stakeholders.

• Practical experience in organizing media events: press conferences, press trips, project site visits, etc. as well as arranging interviews for newspapers, TV, radio and e-media.

• Demonstrates a strong ability to draft communication/information documents (samples are to be presented).

• Fluent in English (spoken and written), has strong report-writing skills (samples to be presented). Able to write leaflets, brochures, newsletters and ensure wide distribution.

• Excellent computer skills (including Adobe Acrobat, CorelDraw, PhotoShop)

• Able to update websites and prepare analytical pieces on the project activities

• Strong knowledge and use of modern information technologies
