Job Description: Adam Smith International was founded in 1992 and has grown into one of the world's leading independent governance and economic consultancies. We are based in London, Delhi and Nairobi and have project offices throughout the world. We provide high quality governance and economic thinking underpinned by practical support for ministers, officials and citizens at all levels. Our world class professional consultants strive to promote good governance and economic and social change in the fight against poverty.

We have a reputation for providing authoritative technical expertise and for being pragmatic and committed to getting things done, often in the most difficult circumstances.

We have a long-established reputation and extensive experience of delivering development projects that work, and contribute to sustainable outcomes. Our projects are wide ranging and include good governance, civil service reform, institutional capacity building, decentralisation, economic reform, and educational and social development. We ensure sustainable outcomes by putting a strong emphasis on the need to work in full partnership with our counterparts. This has given us an enviable reputation as trusted advisers who work hard to understand local needs and practices, to tailor international experience to the local environment and to build the ownership needed to achieve lasting change.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who have recently left policy or management functions at HM Treasury to work on public financial management technical assistance projects.

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. They will also need to demonstrate a strong track record of working effectively with government counterparts in challenging reform environments and success in implementing institutional reforms.

Candidates with experience of human resource management will be preferred. Project assignments are entirely flexible, from short stints of a few weeks to longer term placements of up to several years. However we are looking to bring a broad range of new thinking to our work and so timing is of less importance than your skill set.

If you would like to be considered for an associate consultant role with us, we would like to hear from you.
